NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. —
Officials say a home is a total loss after a fire in Fairview Township, York County.
The fire started just after 7 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Lewisberry Road.
According to York County dispatchers, the blaze was upgraded to a second alarm around 7:30 p.m. More than a dozen fire companies responded to the scene from across York and Cumberland counties.
It took firefighters more than three hours to put out the flames.
Emergency crews told WGAL News 8 the fire started in the garage and quickly spread throughout the home and into the backyard.
The two people who lived in the home were not hurt and are now receiving help from the Red Cross.
Crews at the scene said the fire was difficult to fight due to the summer heat.
“The firefighters can only be in there for 15 or 20 minutes and they’re pretty much exhausted,” said director of York County’s Office of Emergency Management Chris Weidenhammer. “There was a need to call for additional resources. Fourteen fire departments in total were on the scene.”
Lewisberry Road is shut down in the area.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
